Chiropodist/Foot Specialist
A chiropodist is a healthcare professional who specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders and diseases of the feet and lower limbs. In many countries, including the UK and Canada, chiropodists are also known as podiatrists.
Foot Care: Chiropodists provide comprehensive care for conditions affecting the feet, such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, fungal infections, bunions, and diabetic foot complications.
Biomechanical Assessment: They assess the structure and function of the feet and lower limbs to diagnose issues related to gait (walking pattern), alignment, and movement mechanics. This assessment helps in prescribing orthotics (custom made) and/or orthopedic shoes, and recommending exercises or therapies to improve biomechanical efficiency and prevent injuries.
